Style Story: Work Outfits Monday Through Friday

My style story is back this week! Monitoring my daily work outfits has been a great way for me to see what I actually wear and need in my closet. Just from last week’s post I was able to clean out my wardrobe by getting rid of a few items. This week was freezing, and I couldn’t seem to wear enough layers. Take a look:

By the way, Monday-Thursday’s pictures were taken by Tom Price of Teaspoon Photography.

Monday: Score 5/5

MondayOn Monday, I felt sassy in my snake dress. On this day though I was very cold. I took note and knew I would need to wear some long johns underneath. Thank goodness I had grabbed the fur loop scarf heading out the door. It saved me! There’s an item in this outfit that needs replacing, but until I find it, I’ll just keep wearing this pilled long cardigan. But ladies, it’s a must! For one thing, this dress is on the shorter side, so by wearing this long cardigan I didn’t feel too risqué. (The dark black tights with long black boots helped as well.) The dress was a total score that I found at the garage sale Jen and I stumbled upon in Jakarta. It was the first time I had worn it to school, and I felt very professional–even with a short hemline.
*This day’s lippy was Cruella by NARS.

FROM THIS OUTFIT, I RECOMMEND A LONG BLACK CARDIGAN:

Tuesday: Score 2/5

TuesdayI don’t know about this outfit. There’s something about it that just doesn’t work. I can’t pinpoint it, but I felt kind of silly all day. Maybe it’s just all too matchy matchy. I love the necklace–I found it at an antique shop in Cat Street of Hong Kong. I was almost warm in a turtle neck with heat technology underneath. The pants…hmmmm, maybe they’re just a little too much. I did get rid of the boots. They were originally little black booties, but I turned them gold. They’re finished though, and I’m not up to redoing the paint job on these boots. It’s ok; it’s time to let them go. Although, I still want to get these!
*I went with another dark burgundy lip, but this time it was Trigger by Topshop.

I’m not sure what I recommend here…But I want sparkly boots!

Especially these in bronze…sigh.

Wednesday: Score 5/5

WednesdayThere’s something that just feels sharp about wearing black and white. It’s just polished and makes me feel smart–even when it’s in whimsical polka dots. When I saw this outfit on Taylor Tomasi Hill, I’d put a blouse just like it on my want list! I had wanted to pair this look with a fuzzy black cardigan sweater, but the shirt didn’t cover my bum, and the leggings were just tight enough–I needed to cover my derrière! Like the black cardigan from Monday, this black blazer is in dire need of replacing, but until I do it’s stays.
*One of my most favorite red lippies is Red Velvet by Wet ‘n Wild!

My Advice: Polka Dots make Black and White more Fun:

Thursday: Score 4/5

ThursdayMy in-laws arrived on Wednesday night, and with them they brought this fabulous t-shirt! Go HAWKS!! Well, I couldn’t resist; I had to wear it. Since I was working, I tried to pair it with as professional a look I could while honoring the shirt itself. I think I did ok with a flower-filled pencil skirt. I chose my mom’s cowboy boots to further demonstrate my love of Washington. You can’t see it, but there’s a striped sweater underneath the tee plus the denim shirt. Admittedly, I did feel a little quirky because you also can’t see the Seahawks socks I’m wearing!!
*I wore Revlon Rendezvous Lip Balm Stain to compliment the oranges in the skirt but mainly contrast with the navy blue.

The Game Day is this Sunday!

I know I mentioned this before, but this student ROCKS!! Monday-Thursday’s pictures were taken by Tom Price of Teaspoon Photography.

Friday: Score 3/5

FridayThis was a very casual day–at home. But even at home it feels good to get a little glamorous, so I donned some bright 60s lippy and tried out wearing my new tribal layered necklace that Jane carried over for me–it was a splurge order made during a our very long airport delay in Bali as we were trying to get home to HK. Sometimes, just the fact that someone is coming over causes me to hit the purchase button, and I have been trying to find one of these funky necklaces since I saw one on Marion of Marion Tessier Photography. Finally! And I think it pushes this casual house outfit to a 4/5! By the way, if you don’t have a slouchy, sweatshirt type, grey cashmere sweater, I recommend you invest in one. It’s the best house layer for coziness ever!
*Revlon Lip Balm Stain in Cherish is so utterly retro. I love it!

Invest in Super Comfy Grey Cashmere:

Do you like what you wore this week? Does this post offer inspiration to your work week? I feel like I did dressed better this week–except for Tuesday. I was a little more professional, less boho, and I found out that I have two items to replace in my wardrobe: my black blazer and black long cardigan. And, I’ll probably get rid of those pants from Tuesday; they’re not so cute.

  1. big fan of the style week, as you know. i have started turning turning my hangers when i wear something so i can easily see what is getting use and what is not. it’s fabulous and helping me weed out those clothes that i simply don’t wear. if you only knew how often i think of you during the week when i wear something fabulous and funky! 🙂

    1. Thanks Tara! I’m so glad!! Knowing you appreciate it motivates me for the next week. You can count on it for next Friday too. And wait for a personal message just to you too. Big love! Annie
