Just like having a Holiday Outfit Formula, I also have a New Year’s Eve Outfit Formula. It’s basically the same but in reverse. To dress up a bit more for this festive evening, I choose a fun sparkly, fancy, unique cut top and pair it with a black leather skirt and pumps. It’s that easy! Through the years of traveling, I’ve picked up quite an assortment, so I have plenty of options. If I will be in colder temperatures, any of these would look great under a black blazer or ballet wrap sweater. This year however, I’ll be in Thailand with my sister, Mary, so I’ll opt perhaps for little black shorts instead!
Some Outfit Details
Each of these tops has a bit of a history that I will share here. There was a time while we were living in India that festive tops like the ones found in this post were pretty much a weekend staple–hence, I have a few!
Black Tube with Sparkles, Express
One time home, maybe the same Christmas that I bought this red plaid skirt, I happened upon this sparkly tube top. I knew for sure it was during our time in India when I needed more festive tops than normal.
Lace Tube, Forever 21
I remember purchasing this top when the only Forever 21 I had access to was the one in Bangkok. Since living in India and in Beijing and even now in Hong Kong, Thailand has become our go-to spot for an easy, relatively inexpensive, yet extremely pleasureful trip, and I always make a stop at my favorite Forever 21 in the world found at Central World in Bangkok!
Matte Sequin Racer Back, Old Navy
Summer sales at Old Navy, Gap, and Banana Republic are amazing. It’s always right before we leave that we’ll enter in to any one of these shops and seriously score on the deals. One such summer, I scooped up this awesome black sequin racer back. Probably won’t ever get rid of this one!
Lace Halter, Forever 21
I either got this on the same trip as the Lace Tube mentioned up above or on another such trip to the Forever 21. Before I frequented the Forever 21 in Bangkok, the one in Kuala Lumpur also became a must stop.
Gold Sequin Racer Back, random off-the-truck store in India
India had the best off-the-truck stores. That’s the name of the shops that have items ready for exporting that don’t quite make it to their intended destination. Instead, they seem to be literally off-the-truck in little shops for those of us in the host country ready to SCORE!
Colorful Sequin Halter, Venezuela
This top goes WAY back. I don’t even remember where I got it, but it was one of those shirts that I knew I’d keep forever. It’s just super festive in a classic, timeless cut; all the different shapes and colors of sequins make it look like a lit up Christmas tree. The one tricky part about this top is that it is short, so I always need to pair it with a high-waisted bottom.
Leather Skirt, Zara this season
Black Pumps, Forever21 this season
Lips, MAC Ruby Woo
Great post. I really enjoyed it!
