Wow! No Wonder I Felt So Bad!!

I just checked, and the last time I posted here on Kremb de la Kremb was November 11! That was a long time ago. When I went to return to my blog two days ago, it was gone. Didn’t exist. Try the sever. And on and on! I came to find out I had accidentally let my blog expire! I’ve been thinking about writing–all the time. I’ve even gone out and taken a few different pictures. But, my energy to write something was never there….

Now I know why! I had anemia!! I found out quite by accident but when I did know, everything kinda made sense. No wonder a single flight of stairs made me want to faint. I blamed it on Covid for awhile since I had it back early Feb. But then, when a doctor for my hip wanted blood results, by chance I shared them with our school doctor on March 4th. She wrote back immediately, and said, “Ann you have anemia1” Speed twenty quick days ahead, multiple blood tests, and five different doctors in the mix, and on March 24th I had a hysterectomy.

Now, it’s exactly one week and a day later, and aside from surgery pain, I can honestly say I feel like myself again! I had no idea how awful having anemia makes one feel. I was constantly tired–that’s an obvious effect. The one effect that was driving me crazy was how out of breath I’d get from walking 20 feet, not evening mentioning any stairs. I kept saying, When will I get use to this crazy altitude!? With a condition like anemia, never. One doc explained it very well: for 4 red blood cells I was making, I only got to use 1!

Fibroids are a very real issue for so many women. That’s what I had–one really big one and a smaller one. I was scared to have this surgery done, but now I’m so relieved! I will no longer have crazy, embarrassing situations because of my unruly monthly cycle. Initially, I was like, Great! Now I’m 50 (turned in Feb) and this is what I get?! However, at this point, I’m kind of wishing I would have known to do this ten years ago. And this is me saying this 7 days out from surgery!

The road to recovery may be a while, BUT feeling like myself again is all the way worth it!

*Please note: I love my OB/GYN here in Quito. If you are a local, female reader, I highly recommend Dra. Karla Andrade. I dare say, aside from Dr. Issac Benjamin who delivered my two babes in so long ago Caracas, Venezuela, and maybe aside from my dad–although he’s only ever been Thomasina’s doctor, Dra. Karla is the best doctor I’ve ever had! (And I’ve had a lot!!)

**These photos were taken in the rain on February 13 in Mindo, Ecuador. I had every intention of creating a Valentine’s Day post… While that didn’t happen, I do love both where these pics were taken and the pink and red combo–you can even see pink eyeliner on my eyes if you look closely!
