Wearing shorts to work isn’t very common attire; however, this fall season I’ve been giving it a go to see if it works for me. It does–especially since there’s a lot of moving around for me in my day as a high school librarian. The reason wearing shorts to work also is beneficial in Hong Kong has to do with the weather; while fall weather is beginning in other parts of the northern hemisphere, we’re still experiencing high temps. There are not complaints from me on the weather, but I always look forward to my wardrobe changes that happen during certain times of the year–like entering into fall, winter, spring, and summer.
There are a couple of things I do when I wear shorts to work. The first thing I do is heavily accessorize. For some reason, I feel that adding more bling from earrings to necklaces to rings elevates the short factor a bit. Wearing statement jewelry dresses up the casualness of wearing shorts to work.
The other thing I pay attention to is the fabric and color of shorts I wear. For example, black pleather shorts with a cinched waist are a little more elevated than a pair of plain black shorts. There are plenty of details to these shorts that make them just a little bit more dressy.
I have to include this last picture. I have a very similar picture of myself in this exact pose from back when I was in 8th grade. Gosh…. it was a photoshoot with Kimber Daly. She brought me along for her family’s portraits in Manito Park’s flower garden. That’s an old memory! Here’s proof that the flowers are still blooming in Hong Kong!
What do you think? If there dressed up and in an autumnal fabric and color, would you wear shorts to work?
Come back next Wednesday for more of my…
