I was so impressionable as a kid. I was my mother’s guinea pig trying just about anything when it came to style. With my mom’s encouragement, I’d wear whatever she told me to. There’s evidence in my 5th grade school picture: I’m wearing a tie–with confidence I must add. My mom dressed me in a white collared shirt, black Bermuda shorts, white knee highs, and black penny loafers. The piece that added a little pizazz was the black tie with little white and red diamonds. I felt so chic in my little outfit. It was ridiculous actually, but for the first time I can remember the feeling of confidence gained just by what I was wearing. That was my first lesson that confidence must be a part of any outfit. On the other hand if I had walked in to school all shy and embarrassed by my outfit, this would have been a very different story. Rather, I remember feeling extremely cool, I enjoyed looking different and wearing something no one else would, and I felt extremely stylish which in turn made me stand and walk confidently. Here’s to wearing a tie at ten. Inspired by this childhood style memory, I’m wearing a tie in today’s post!
