I can’t remember which French style book it was, but one of the messages I learned about has really stayed with me: always wear a black bra with a white shirt. I know! It’s contrary to American ways which would most likely opt for a nude bra that wouldn’t show through at all. But, the author of this French style how-to book stated to wear a black bra AND not be afraid to let it show! Since I read this French style tip, I’ve been trying it out, and I’ll tell you what, I like it. It’s like pushing a boundary, and I tend to usually go for that. But, it’s not like wearing black panties with white panties–that is an absolute no-no! I don’t care what any stylist will say; I’m not going to purposefully do that, and if I do wear black undies with white without catching myself, I do believe I’d be mortified!
Recently I’ve been addicted, no, I think it’s called “binge watching.” Basically I’ve been working my way through Madame Secretary. Of course I’m paying close attention to the styling, and Tea Leoni, my GOD she’s gorgeous and that voice–so throaty sexy! Anyway, guess who also sports a black bra with a white shirt? Yes, Elizabeth McCord! Once I started noticing that she, well her stylist for the show, has her also wear the black bra under the white shirt, I felt I might be on to something that’s making its way to the US of A.
Now I wear a black bra under white dress shirts, white t-shirts, and even white lacy ones like this. This is a tricky top–I also used bra tape to make sure the V of the plunge doesn’t stray too far off! (Although I’m not so sure how successful the tape was!) And, no, this top won’t be making it into Friday’s Librarian Look. The only way I’d wear this shirt to school is with a camisole underneath, and I don’t really like to wear that sort of top with this style since the style is to wrap. Does that make sense? A camisole would defeat the purpose of a wrap top or dress in my styling opinion. But maybe I should reconsider….
Perhaps you’re wondering what are these French books from which I’m taking notes. I’ve read a ton, so I’ve included all of them down below. Yes, there are great perks to being a librarian!!
