Trying Out the Paper Bag Waist

I’ll pretty much try anything–even a trend that I don’t think will work on me. I think it stems from trying dresses on with my mom forcing me try them all because you never know how it will look. And as mother’s are always right, she was. There were many times when the dress looked better on than on the hanger, so you never do know until you try something on. I didn’t think the paper bag waist would work with my apple figure, but I’m happily surprised that they kind of work.

The paper bag waist intentionally adds more material around my biggest area: my middle. Yet, because of the tie it also cinches in my biggest area–this is a win in my book. Any time I can cinch with a belt to fake a waist, I am going to take the opportunity. Fake waists are my forte.

However the tricky part about the paper bag waist is what to wear on top. One time I tried a graphic tee–I know, surprise-surprise. Tucking something in didn’t work all that well. A cropped top on the other hand seemed to do the trick. The waist is going to come up high, so I didn’t need to worry about showing my belly, but the fact that the top was cropped allowed the top to stop right where it needed to.

Now that I’m enjoying this off white pair, I am kind of wishing I would have gone with the denim as well but having this color of jeans is a nice change for the usual. This all white/cream look is definitely on trend with the fall trend predictions of 2019. I’ve just opted for a top that suits the Hong Kong weather–nice and steamy!

What do you think of the paper bag waist? Will you give it a go? As per usual, I found some options for you just in case…
