Style Stories No. 22: Rather Boring OOTDs

Overall, I’d say my outfits all week were rather boring. On Monday and Tuesday there were no students, so I went for comfortable in jeans. Then Wednesday, I over did it on the comfort by trying out my new off-the-truck leather joggers. Thursday was a homerun–it was such a great outfit that I turned it into a proper shoot, so you’ll see for of that outfit at a later date. For now it’s the first image up above: a plaid suit with a Queen tee. Rock on BabAy! And Friday, I returned to jeans with my culottes–that now fit! Woohooo!!

Monday

I picked up these grey jeans when we went to watch Vincent play baseball in Shanghai. As per usual I had mispacked and was in need of another pair of jeans. Luckily there was an H&M right next door to our hotel so a late night run found me these cute new jeans. One thing I’ve been noticing–and I mean it is totally reasonable; I live in Asia–is all the stores have “Asian Fit” now. So, I’m having to buy petite sizes and I am in NO WAY petite. Oh well. When in HK….

Tuesday

Some of my Levi’s are too big on me lately–this is a good thing. I will not complain! I think I’m going to take this pair to my tailor and try to get my own personal RE/DONE jeans. (RE/DONE takes old Levi’s and fits them to the curves of a woman’s body. They do a great job, BUT they are WAY beyond my price point!) There two more features of this very casual, if even boring, outfit that I want to highlight: the sweater and the belt. Growing up my mom had this amazing cream colored sweater with little ball nubs on it–similar to my sweater. However the neck of her sweater sent me in awe. It showed off her collar bone expertly, and I remember telling her that I wanted to have a collar bone just like hers when I grew up. I thought it was so beautiful! Next up is the story behind this fabulous belt: it’s from the Night Market in Goa which was such a festival of color, vibrancy, music, dance, and of course shopping! My mom bought this belt for me at that market. It’s one of my cherished posessions. Oh, one last thing–the shoes, they gotta go. While they look perfectly distressed on the outside, the inside of these shoes disintegrates during wear!

Wednesday

I picked up these leather joggers in Stanley Market. I call them off-the-truck shops. Perhaps it’s the sample item or maybe there was an issue with the production, but the store is filled with cast offs–at a remarkable price. These leather joggers were only $12USD. Not bad! I just don’t think I like the all black look. I’ll try again. I wore the HKIS sweatshirt in school support since the students came back on Wednesday after five days of suspended classes!

Friday

I like how this outfit came together. I really wanted to wear my culotte jeans–because they now fit!! I’ve lost 20 pounds so far!! I’ve been eating the OPTAVIA way, and it is helping me drastically! Again in this outfit there are two items to highlight: the boots and the belt. When we lived in Venezuela, back when the kids were born, we would take frequent weekend trips to Margarita Island–which was duty free. Every visit, we’d head to the big mall and get in a little shopping. This was back when Zara was just introduced to the world market, and the prices were insane! I bought both these boots and belt together; that means these two items are at least 16 years old. Leather holds up; that’s for sure.
