Usually on a Friday, I get home from work and put on my sweats. After a week of work, I long for the movie night accompanied with some red wine and a bowl of popcorn. Occasionally, social duties call for a night out, and changing out of those sweats and into something cocktail worthy, in the cold winter months, can be challenging. That’s when I pull out my silver dress. Recently for a Chinese New Year work party this was exactly the case. I really just wanted to stay in, but with my warm layers underneath and this silver dress over, I instantly felt ready to attend the party. I even danced–which since having my hip surgery had been a long time coming!
Thanks for taking these pics Norbyah!
Just Throw on a Silver Dress!
I found some reasonable options for various figures all under $100–including mine which was only $23! Not bad for a cocktail dress!

The Important Layers:
This might be repetitive but I cannot reiterate how important the fleece lined leggings or tights are alongside the thermal turtleneck. If it weren’t for these two items, I would have stayed on the couch! These under layers keep me warm and cozy–especially on a Friday night!

(My turtleneck is the first one–just in black. It’s super tight so it serves as a second skin.)
Get a Duster!
One last clothing item that made this outfit complete was a black duster cardigan. I’ve had this piece in my wardrobe for a very long time–I actually got it on a trip to Istanbul back 2008. (Yes, it is showing it’s wear therefore I’m in the market to replace it!) I find that this long black cardi is the perfect layering piece for some of my shorter items. I’m not afraid of a short hemline, but sometimes if I want to be a little more modest, I find this long coverup to work perfectly. This black duster is a staple in my wardrobe so I highly recommend one to you:

Do you have a dress that you throw on for those Friday nights when you have to go out? What is it?
Great dress! And I love that you made sure to be warm! It’s so important to be comfortable…
Hope your are having a wonderful weekend!
Love this look, because I’d probably never had thought to wear this dress, yet it looks perfect on you with the black underneath! Since I’m extra short, I always think they’ll be longer on me than on the models!! jodie

Dazzling!
I mean…..you are one foxy lady!
Not an inch of flesh on display, but I bet all heads turned when you walked in the room.
Party-ready and full of Sass.
Love it!
Great tips about layers….you have proved that we can layer up (you know I love to layer) and still look good.
Shivering is not attractive.
I am glad to hear you got up to dance and had a fun night.
As for my “HAVE to go out” outfit…hmmmm..In this weather?….Probably the same thermal tights under skinny dark jeans, high boots and a shirt maybe satin/silk and a chunky pendant or chiffon with a jewelled collar….and then a fluffy cover up!

Indeed, what a festive dress. You look so good in it. Not only party-party but also young and stylish. Is it the cut? Or the jewellery you wear with it? I don’t know. That cardigan works very well. You make me regret not having bought the perfect cardi at Eileen Fisher when I had it on. I was afraid it would look mumsy on me. Then again, I never wear anything short anymore to balance it.
