Recently I purchased this boho floral dress via a Google image search. Yes, I used my research skills to shop. Hey, what can I say? I’m a good librarian! Now, let’s see how well I can explain the search in order to teach the process.
The first thing needed is an image. I remembered seeing Rocky Barnes in this dress. It was long ago, but for some reason it came to my mind recently. I became a bit fixated, and when that happens, I usually have to fulfill my fashion fixation!
Off to Google…. to start a Google image search, you first have to search up “image search.” This then took me to a Google search for just images. Instead of typing in the search bar, simply drag a photo into the box area. Just hold the mouse over the desired image for a second or so, click down, and then start dragging. I can drag an image from one tab over to the next tab and then right into the search bar. That’s what I did with this picture of Rocky Barnes.
Once the image is dropped into the box, the search begins, and the results should load. At this point, after I dragged the image of Rocky Barnes in this black floral dress, I got a list of different places on the web where this same image was posted. I have a feeling this dress was originally very expensive–and actually did find that it was made by an Australian designer, but all sorts of places started cropping up where the dress could be sold for under $35! This dress must be old enough that companies in China have been able to copy both the dress and the actual fabric.
With a bit more searching I found it at a shop called Putshy for $17. I clicked “XL” and added it to my cart. I then hit purchase and about a month later, the dress arrived. The fabric isn’t all that great–it’s way more polyester than the flowy cotton looking version on Rocky Barnes, but despite the fabric, this dress makes for a fun party frock. Heck for the experience of shopping online via a Google image search, it was worth the $17!
Now… what other items have I been fixated on!
Have you ever shopped using a Google image search? Would you give it a try?
