The last time I posted a book and an outfit was way back in May with My Name is Asher Lev! That’s so long ago, and I’ve definitely read a ton since then. However there is one book that I read over the summer holiday that I can’t seem to stop thinking about: Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline was such a sensational read. This book was amazing on so many levels. It’s a futuristic story, but not that far out taking place during 2044, yet the world is pretty much doomed. To escape the sad state of Earth, people venture into a virtual world called the Oasis. Now, I’ve never been one to really understand gaming and video games, but reading this book gave me some insight into the world of gamers. There is a major virtual game to be solved within the story, and the final fun part of the novel is that all the clues contain reference to the 80s. I was 8 in 1980 and 18 by 1990. It was fun to read and know the 80s pop culture that is a major component of the Ready Player One. Definitely please read this book before the movie comes out. Yes, that’s right. There’s going to be a movie produced by a very famous director and producer who got his start in the 80s. Can you guess who? Yep, it’s Steven Spielberg. I already know though, that with this one the book was better!
I don’t want to give away too much, but I’d like to entice you just enough to read this book. In Ready Player One, the planet Earth is in a sad state–hence I went ahead and created my scene amongst a utility closet. Here’s an actual visual that is so disturbing but won’t give too much a way. Because the planet is short on space, RV parks now place the homes in a vertical way. Simply check out this cover and look closely: you’ll see RVs stacked upon RVs representing the housing of the future. No, it’s not a pretty picture….
Have you read Ready Player One? Is it already on your reading list?
As a side note, I gave away ten copies of this book at the start of the school year. I had so many students wanting to win a copy of the book. And, it was my son Vincent who told me, “Mom, you gotta read this!” He devoured Ready Player One in two days time!

It sounds like a brilliant read, Annie! I shall have to look it up 🙂
P.S You look great as always 🙂

It’s so fun! Fast paced and ready to finish in a split second. Definitely add it to your reading list!!

Wow! So cool! I love that Vincent was the one who turned you on to this book! It sound like a really intriguing premise. I also bought the Asher Lev novel last Spring but with my crazy summer of 6 trips to South Dakota, packing and purging I never sat down to read it. ( embarrassing).
Do I see a fun new bob haircut on you dear Annie?? I love your cute look right down to the anklets!!
I’d say November would be an excellent time to read Asher Lev. Things will have hopefully started to settle down for you. It’s the perfect grab a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy in a cozy window seat or pleasant café. That’s the kind of book it is. Ready Player One is the book you want to hunker in and read in one go. It’s fast paced, mysterious, and thrilling. For this one you might just want to stay in your pajamas and read in two days time–that’s how Vincent read it, but since we were out at the lake he was in a swimsuit!
I like doing these books and an outfit–especially if people like you pick up the book! Win win for this librarian!!
Love, Annie
I’m taking notes on this book, I thing I’ll enjoy it (even if it’s a little disturbing) as a huge fan of 80’s.
Thanks for sharing!
