This month of May was a little slower on the reading front–probably because I read such bad books. I hate it when that happens. Usually I put a book down if I’m not enjoying it, but three times this month I held out with hopes that the books would get better. Unfortunately they did not. That is except for Daisy Jones and the Six. Wow! WOW!! WowZa!!!
AUDIOBOOK
Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Sometimes I listen to an audiobook and it’s just so, so, soooo good. I don’t think I can give this story enough stars. I mean, I think everyone should go listen. It was fantastic! I’ll give details: the voices were incredible, and the voices are plural. There are multiple narrators to this story. The love, felt in so many different ways and amongst so many different individuals was always tangible. I could feel the various forms of love. It was intense. Did I mention the voices? They were all so sexy. I looked forward to hearing each and every one of the characters. I won’t tell you what the book is about (head to Goodreads for that) other than a fictional, 1970s rock band. What I will say is I would listen again, and I’ve never said that about an audiobook. It was sexy and basically rockin’ awesome!
BOOKS
I was so hopeful for the books I read this May, but none of them ever delivered. One Day in December was fine, but my goodness, lonnnnng. Just get to the end already, and I say that with only 392 pages to the book. The Summer I Turned Pretty was meh. I mean it is an older (2009) young adult story, so I could maybe see how it was in its prime years ago. I just found the heroine a bit pathetic which is how I never like to view a female. And don’t even get me started on The Idea of You. It was horrendous. (I do not understand the ratings on Goodreads.) I don’t mind reading about sex, sexual acts, or even raunchy, under the dinner table sex, but add a point to the story. Please. This book again had a rather pathetic heroine, and I just like my female characters to be a bit more substantial, strong, smart, and independent. Let’s just say I felt real let down by my reading material this May. Thank GOD I listened to Daisy Jones. Now that one redeemed all the aforementioned.
*Guess what? While researching for this book I discovered that Reese has picked up this book to become a TV series. But please listen first!
TV
Dead to Me
Oh my! Talk about a binge show!! Kevin, Gigi and I literally watched episode after episode. We were unstoppable. We’d watch one episode and immediately need to see the next one. We’d take a break, but we were all talking about it wondering what would happen. Before we knew it, we’d watched ten episodes in three days! Yep that’s called binge watching, and this show will do that to you. It was so good; we can hardly wait for season two. And Christina Applegate, she’s f$&*@ng good! (I’m using that word as a clue….
*Vincent would have watched with us, but he had to study.
Homeland
Kevin and I have started watching certain shows together. Even though we haven’t finished Ozark and even those this show began in 2011, we’ve gotten hooked. We aren’t at the binge state, but we are left wondering what’s going to happen. Homeland is a drama about a CIA agent and a turned Prisoner of War. It only took one episode to be intrigued with these two characters.
MOVIE
Endgame
Of course, with the rest of the world, we went to see Endgame! What a show!! It’s so fantastic. I even cried twice. Gigi saw it twice and Vincent three times. It’s a real hit of a movie culminating all the Marvels together. And, even if you haven’t kept up with the Avengers, the show could stand alone. I have to admit my favorite character: Thor! His pudgy, sensitive side was so cute. It’s as if I could really relate with this emotional Thor. And of corse anything with GP in it is always a winner! (I can’t believe Gwennie and I are the same age!!)
Reading and Watching
Can you recommend anything to me so I have a better book month this June?!?
