Rainbow Bright! A Fab 40s Post

It’s March, and everyone dealing with the end of this winterish month is eager for spring’s rainbow! For all of us in Hong Kong are winter chill is over but we still quite don’t know how many layers to wear. Suffice it to say that a jean jacket is always the perfect layer this time of year. And with my determination for trying to wear yellow, I went with sequins–a texture I adore! For me, I find wearing sequins in a casual way a fun take on the fabric. It’s like I’m saying no and yes to fancy wear all at once; like I’ll wear my sequins in the day time thank you with a pair of rainbow sneakers and matching rainbow socks!

Curlybyrdie Chirps

Mary, with her olive complexion, is one of the lucky ones. She can rock yellow–I am betting any shade too. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again: I really appreciate how Mary knows how to work her curves. She always knows just how to style her figure in the most flattering of ways.

Jasilika’s Faith Walk

This month Mary chose our rainbow them and also invited Jasilika who writes Jasilika’s Faith Walk. What’s not to love about this rainbow dress! It’s stunning! And no wonder Mary invited another fabulous dress wearer–do check out Jasilika’s stunning feminine style. Oh, her blog is dripping in stylish beauty: sequins, one shoulders (or none!), and rosy goodness. And this skirt and sweater co-ord–well, can I borrow it?!

Suzy Turner

Here we have a sample of Suzy color blocking at its best: purple, emerald green, red, yellow, more purple, a peek of blue, and again more purple. I love this. Nothing goes, but then everything goes. Right? Right!! Nice look Suzy!!

A Pocketful of Polka Dots

Here we have more successful color blocking from Jennie but with hints of the pastels this time around with mint green and rosy pink. It all works successfully. Rainbow bright–hence the name of this post! And Jennie, I am still loving your hair! It looks so good!

Sheela Goh

Sheela, whom we usually don as our queen, has become the queen of jean shorts! Check out her strong gams! Looking good Sheela. And, another wearer of yellow I see. Now, the platform boots–we all know I would fall over, but you wear them so well, like always!

And Me, Kremb de la Kremb

I think the reason I was able to pull off this yellow dress is because of one main reason done in two ways. First, I covered myself in a color I know always look good in: blue. And then second I accessorized with another color I can pull off without a hitch: red. While I don’t feel comfortable in yellow, I definitely feel myself with some red lippy and blue close to my eyes. In this way, I think I’m able to wear this yellow dress. And what’s not to love about wearing sequins in such a casual way!!

  1. The combination of red, yellow and blue denim has always been one of my favorites and you absolutely steal the show in this little yellow sequined number Annie! You’re just like a sparkly golden drop of sunshine!! This particular shade of yellow ( maybe it’s the sequin effect?) is very nice on you!! Also, I appreciate that you always do one shot without the sunglasses!
Jasilika’s rainbow look really is pretty special and Sheila is so fit and fabulous in her cut offs , and DARLING plaid boots!!

    1. What a nice compliment to hear re the one shot without sunglasses. I’m glad you noticed; I do try to do that.

And, you out of all my readers probably realize that yellow, blue, and red are the primary colors; the heart of the rainbow to say.

A yellow sequin shift seemed like the perfect yellow item for me! I think I’ll be wearing it to graduation–with a pair of tennies of course!!

  2. You look so adorable and fun and cool all rolled into one! Yellow sequins is so unexpected and I really like how you made it work for day. All the little details are quirky and work so well together. The rainbow socks and shoes are so freakin’ cute! Yea denim jackets are always the answer for transforming items to day-wear, right???

    1. You know me Jennie! I love to make sequins and tennies work for day! Since high heels no longer play a role in my wardrobe, I try hard to make other dressy things work for me–like sequins! Hahah!

Mary chose a fun theme for sure!

    1. Thank you Monica. I love wearing sequins during the day. It’s like ha! Let’s celebrate the day–not just the night. And paired with sneakers, and I’m doubly happy!

      Love, Annie

  4. Annie, you look SO COOL!!! I love that you chose a sequinned dress for this theme – and what a fabulous dress it is. I LOVE it! You and Sheela both rock wearing short skirts / shorts. I wish I had legs like you both!
This was the most fun I’ve had getting dress for ages lol!
Can’t wait for next month. I wonder what the theme will be. I need to start putting my thinking cap on for May!!

    1. This was a fun one. And luckily I didn’t go to crazy. At Forever 41 I found a rainbow duffle, but luckily I stopped myself. My entire wardrobe is a rainbow!

I also wonder what’s up for April….And you’re May! FUN!!

And, you know me: any excuse to wear sequins, I’ll take it–especially during the day with tennis shoes!! Hahah!

      Annie

    1. Thank you Sam. I have to admit. This month’s theme made me miss you a ton!! When Suzy’s look came in, I especially thought of you.

You are bright and beautiful every day!!

      Annie

  5. I love your sequin dress! I also love the other ladies you featured – what great color blocking outfits!! Thanks for sharing! I will try to incorporate some yellow soon! Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I am so glad I inspired you Cindy. You are one of the lucky ones–I bet any shade or tone of yellow works on you! I saw you in mustard yellow with no problem. That’s not a color everyone can wear–but you sure can!
