These mouth watering holiday cookies are usually called Pfeffer Nuts, but in the Krembs’ home we’ve started to call them Pfeffer Flowers. Folks, these cookies are absolutely scrumptious. Plus, the batch makes a very large amount so gifting them or bringing them to parties is always a sure hit. They are a little salty, a lot creamy, and utterly delicious. If you aren’t already making them for your holiday cookie tray, please, do give them a try!
Pfeffer Flowers
Mix the following ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
Pinch salt
6 tbsp whipping cream
1 tsp cinnamon (of course we double this in the Krembs’ house;)
1/2 tsp ginger
3 cups flour
Chill this mixture. Before, to make Pfeffer nuts, we would have rolled out the dough into ropes, cut into morsels, and then rolled them into mini 1/2 inch bite sized balls. But now we make Pfeffer Flowers, so we roll out the dough to the desired thickness and use a small flower cookie cutter to make little bite sized cookies. This new way creates more uniform amongst all the cookies; I think it makes the cookies look a little more special. You could use stars or little snowflakes–just make sure it’s a smaller cookie cutter as these cookies are packed with taste (not to mention a little more than a few cals!).
Place on a cookie sheet and bake at 325° for 20 minutes–or until slight brown.
*Please note: The dangerous thing about these little flower bites of heaven are the size. You can eat them by the handful if you’re not careful! Share them and listen for the mmmmm’s!
