Everyone in my family wants Joanie’s help when it comes to packing. No matter what, if we are packing for a trip or packing up a house, we want our mom involved. She’s just that good! During her recent visit to Hong Kong, I took a moment to capitalize on her skills in terms of packing a suitcase:
Tip # 1
Layer and layer flat. Joanie doesn’t believe in folding any of her suitcase items. Instead she prepares each item as flat as it can go, and she places them on top on one another. Joanie starts with her pants on the bottom, then moves on to sweaters, jackets or vest, then finishes the layer of clothing with her shirts. She places her pajamas on top of this layered stack alongside her tolietries, so once she arrives, she’s ready for bed!
Tip #2
Here’s an ingenious Joanie trick: she takes the plastic bag that linen comes in and uses those for her toiletry bag. This way she’s reusing something plus she can see where everything is at since the bags are transparent.
Tip #3
In flight Joanie takes a roller carry on plus a hand bag. In the roller, she stores in flight essentials including her pillow from home and a vest for warmth. In the handbag she stores her makeup bag, iPad for her games, and her book.
