Sometimes while I’m shopping, I’ll get this great idea for an outfit. Then when I get home and I actually put everything together, I’ll think to myself, “Does this even work?” Point in case is this over-the-top polkadot and gingham look I’ve styled. Granted, I have not worn this outfit out and about or even to work–this is one of those times where I’ve styled a look to see if it could work. That’s the great thing about writing this blog: it allows for my sartorial creativity to test things out first here and then perhaps attempt to wear the outfit in real life. This time around though…I don’t know if I’ll wear all this polkadot goodness paired with gingham at once. In my head at the time of purchase, the outfit was a total winner; now when I see it all put together, I’m not so sure. And definitely my photographer begged to differ: Kevin did not think it worked, not at all. But his thoughts usually don’t stop me. My comfort in what I’m wearing decides whether it works or not.
Just in case you would like anything I’m wearing here, they’re all recent purchases, so I can include some shop-able links: the polkadot tee, gingham skirt, and polkadot sneakers (only 10 bucks!). My earrings are unique–they are a fabulous find from the night market in Luang Prabang, Laos, yet my sunglasses are easy to copy: here, here, or here–all for under $20. Also for under $30 are black polkadot sunnies or white polkadot sunnies–knock yourself out with polkadots! And luckily my cute, little camera shaped bag is still available from last spring. It’s so kitschy; I love it!
I definitely think a mix of polkadots with gingham work, but maybe just one set of polkadots would do. I didn’t need to overdo it with both the black polkadots on white tee and white polkadots on black sneakers. I could easily swap out my sneakers for black Vans or Converse, or I could keep the polka dot sneakers but choose one of my many black and white graphic tees. I think the mix of polkadots with gingham does work, but including both might be a bit of an overkill….
