The off the shoulder trend is still going strong–at least in my wardrobe. For someone with sloping shoulders, this style works really well for me; it also works well with my heftier topside. The thing is this style may not seem work appropriate, yet, when I wore this very outfit to work last week, I felt comfortably confident and rather cute. Here’s what I did so I can wear the off the shoulder at work: first, I simply wear the shoulders up. Next, if I want to wear the style in the sexy way it’s meant to be, I simply add a sleeveless jacket and turn the style into a cold shoulder. The sleeveless blazer helps provide a layer as the temps start to drop. I’d like to note that I always wear a regular bra with my off the shoulder tops or dresses. I never wear a strapless; rather, I simply slide the bra strap to the side. This is so much more comfortable than having to deal with a strapless bra that lacks in support for a 36D. Finally, there’s one other styling trick when wearing this off the shoulder at work: I added shorts. I kept coveting this dress at Zara, trying to sell it to my daughter for her Friday night dress ups. She had no interest. Then, I was finally like, Annie, just get it for yourself! Shorts underneath also makes this off the shoulder at work wearable–I seem to be doing a lot lately with all my short dresses.
I hope these styling tips and tricks help you to continue wearing your off the shoulder tops and dresses. It’s such a cute style and shouldn’t be limited to weekend wear and date nights! Would you wear an off the shoulder at work? If so, how do you make it work for you?
love this look and the converse are perfect. I like you prefer to let the straps just show, I just make sure its a match or a contrast and use it as an additonal statement in my look. Comfort baby all the way
Linda, when you wear it off the shoulder do you just slide the bra straps down too? That’s what I do. Still receive the support and get the look. Strapless bras are for the birds!!

great advice!, and your sleeveless jacket looks really nice over this top, it looks cool & comfy yet elegant!
besos
Thank you so much! The jacket was a little DIY. I was sick of this black blazer, but once I took off the arms, I started wearing it much more.
Thanks for stopping by!

Nice look! No, I wouldn’t wear it to work without the sleeveless vest and even then I don’t think I would. I like the look just wouldn’t fit in with office dress code. I’d wear the top with leggings though b/c shorts are a no-no also. Maybe I need to work where there isn’t such a dress code!

I do have to say: I am very lucky. I could be pushing my boundaries with what I wear, but so far, I’ve been in the clear. I’m a high school librarian so the environment might be a little different from a corporate office. Since I’m always in tennis shoes these days, I try to make my outfits work with them. And my bosses know I’m a fashionista!

My last principal was a stickler for our school dress code although technically it applied to students NOT teachers. She called me out for wearing a sleeveless dress! RIDICULOUS!!
You look cute and happy to show off those great legs. You’ve done a nice job of modifying the top to make it more conservative. You deserve to catch up on the fun you’ve missed out on enduring that painful bad hip.
How’s pinky doing??? Your hair looks great!
Yes, Judy, I am very lucky. I’m known for writing this blog, so perhaps I’m given a bit of leeway. And when I look at how some other teachers dress so casually, I think I’m ok. Even in my casuals, I try to look put together which hopefully comes across as professional. We too have to follow the kids’ dress code–as long as our shoulders are covered and the length passes our hands, I think we’re ok, which in this case I did. With the shoulders worn up I’m fine, and if I wear them down, the blazer’s there to cover my shoulders. Win win. And the shorts underneath gave me an extra length I needed on the hem. I feel very, very lucky that I have freedom to express myself sartorially at work. If I couldn’t, that would be really hard for me….
Thanks for stopping by Judy! Ms. Pinky (as you’ve added to her name!) is doing GREAT!
Love, Annie
You are right. This off the shoulder look is terrific for you. And the dress is also a polka dot. Always desirable. Your earrings go so well with this outfit.
My trick with short dresses (mine are a hell of a lot longer than yours but I am also a hell of a lot older haha), is to wear tapered stretchy pencil skirts underneath.

Greetje, I’ve noticed these earrings keep making an appearance. Obviously they are my go-to pair! And aren’t I lucky to have this hand-me-down bag! I couldn’t believe my friend didn’t want it! And, a pencil skirt underneath…I’ve got to try that. I haven’t yet, and that sounds like another very good solution to a short dress.
Thanks for stopping by Greetje.
