This may come across as unbelievable, but this is my favorite high school sweater. Yes, I received this sweater for Christmas from my mom in 1987 during my freshmen year. I wore it at least once a week–most likely during all four years. I loved it so much. It was and still is like a comfortable teddy bear to me.
I am a colorful person, so all the little knobs and bits of color were (and still are) perfect. And yet together all the colors as a whole create my favorite color of all time: that peacock, teal, dark blue. Like now, I usually wore it with denim jeans, but I feel like I might have also worn it with some skinny cropped red jeans too!
Aside from pulling out this sweater every now and then during cold summer nights, I have never brought this sweater with me overseas: that was until now. Having this cozy, teddy bear sweater here with me in Quito is perfect. Again, I find myself reaching for it at least once a week. It’s a piece of clothing that makes me happy–even though it is over 30 years old!
My mom realized the success with this Christmas present. From then on both I received a beautiful sweater from either The United Colors of Benetton or its sister company Stefano. In fact stay tune for another Christmas sweater special…
This entire outfit screams high school to me, and it’s not just because of my favorite high school sweater. During those formidable teen years, I also owned a pair of red patched jeans–kind of like these star patched jeans. Yes, by the time I was a senior, the jeans and sweater became a part of my senior picture.
Tell me… Do you have a piece of clothing in your closet from your high school days?
