During a recent trip home for the holidays to the Pacific Northwest, there was a frequent questions going on in my mind: Are my layers on?! When I’m layered in fleece lined leggings and turtlenecks, I will admit, finding some style is difficult among all layers on my body. However there are a couple of key pieces not even really seen in this outfit that I recommend you invest in if you are prone to getting cold–especially if you live in a cold climate. Keep reading to see what I’m talking about….
Hat, Uptic Studios | Scarf, Beijing Market | sweater, HM (on sale in cream!) | Cross
body bag, Zara Girls (make sure to always check there!) | Skirt, Forever 21 (with a matching top!
See it as a co-ord here.) | Boots, Dromedaris’ Kara from Mom (best boots ever!)
Layers on? Check!
In these pictures taken in Spokane, Washington after the first snowfall of their year, there are two vital layers necessary that are keeping me warm: the fleece lined tights or leggings and the heat inducing thermal turtleneck. I prefer both of these items in black, although nude is another nice option.
1. Black, fleece lined tights or leggings–this item is so amazingly comfortable and cozy. There are a ton of options from at various price points. Having lived in Asia for many years, I think it’s safe to say if it as foreign Asian writing on it, it’s a good one. I say this since I tend to pick mine up in the lady markets around Hong Kong and previously Beijing. I also know that Japan and Korea make great pairs too. My current pair in this picture are Japanese. No matter, they will keep you warm. Plus there’s one great benefit to fleeced lined tights or leggings: they are not super bulky but rather snug so they layer nicely under dresses and skirts plus trousers and jeans. I love mine and have multiple pairs since I wear them daily in the winter.

2. Black, heat inducing turtleneck–many brands now have a type of thermal underwear garment option that increases the heat of an individual. My favorite brand is Heat Tech from Uniqlo. Lands’ End has a fabric called Thermaskin; Nike has one called Tech Pack; J.Crew has a line called Tissue. Again, the great thing about this under garment is that the turtleneck is very thin almost becoming a second layer of skin. I can remember how frigid cold Beijing was in the winter. There would be days where I just remained in my Uniqlo Heat Technology.

Great look!
I bought some fleece lined leggings for my trip to Germany in December, and they are great! (I don’t have any “real” winter clothes as it just doesn’t get that cold in California, and I haven’t been skiing in 10+ years). I didn’t pick up a heat inducing turtleneck but I had heard great things about it (but by the time I thought I should get one, it was too late). It was unusually warm in Europe in December, which I enjoyed, but I’m glad I got the leggings as I love wearing them…
I am all about the layers Ann!
I hate being cold so these fleece lined tights, leggings and thermal polo necks are friends of mine.
You are right about it being hard to hang onto style while being layered up…but, as you have proved here, it can me done.
I love your snowy pictures!

It doesn’t get sufficiently cold in Houston to warrant thermal undergarments but for my son in Colorado, we buy a lot of stuff from Diamondown.com. For here, my under layers are typically an undershirt (or two) and socks, both 100% cotton. Those two (and my peri-menopausal state) are all I need xoxo
