All last week I was in northern Thailand for a school trip. I learned to cook Thai food with 18 students and a fellow colleague. It was such fun, and of course it’s always a very delicious experience.
I had been there last year and fondly remembered this breathtaking garden. It really is like Frances Hodgson Burnett’s Secret Garden. At the last minute I through in this lace dress just in case I’d have a chance to take pictures while I was there.
My hair is now long enough to be French braided, and no, unfortunately I don’t know how to do this. Luckily a student gladly made the braid for me. I like how she made it spread across to the other side. If only I could do this with my own hair; I guess practice makes perfect. Maybe I’ll start giving it a try…
By the end of this shoot, my white tote was filled with so many petals. It was such fun to be under a snowfall of petals! I hope the gardener didn’t mind my mess too much… All around this Secret Garden is just stunning. To visit and see for yourself, visit Maekok River Village Resort. Adjacent is the Maekok River Village Outdoor Education Center–that’s where we stayed and also where we cooked each day.
A recurring comment keeps coming up on this blog, but I’ll say it just one more time: I’m so happy with this lifestyle that Kevin and I somehow stumbled upon 21 years ago. Being an international teacher means I get to travel, A LOT! And I love it!! I can’t believe how fortunate my life is with the amount of traveling I get to do. It makes me so happy–as seen with this smile!
Here are the two cuties that took the pictures for my lace dress in the Secret Garden at Maekok. Gracie, a senior, is on the left; she took all the pictures. Anna, a sophomore is on the right; she was the art director, finding all the shots and directing us both. One of the greatest things during this week away with students is the ability to connect with them. Both these young ladies are two great, strong, independent, and kind women. I am happy to call them friends–despite the fact that I am also one of their teachers. Thank you Gracie and Anna!
Do you have a Secret Garden in your life?
I don’t have a green thumb–rather the opposite. But this place… it makes me want to change that. I think I’d need a yard though!
