I can remember a conversation I had with my dad back in February. Hong Kong was a month into Covid-19, and for some reason I had the intuition to know it wasn’t going to be good. I remember saying to my dad, “I don’t know if we will be able to come home this summer…” Well, what do you know, but I was right. With a two week quarantine on each end of the summer vacation, it just wasn’t feasible for us to go to the Pacific Northwest. Happily we’ve had a wonderful Hong Kong summer instead.
There are definitely worse situations we could be in… our Hong Kong summer has been lovely! Each day I wake up, take a walk along the water, and listen to an audiobook. Shortly after my walk, I’ll head over to the beach to cool off and take a swim. Until just recently we have been able to enjoy dining out. We’ve also gotten quite good at taking picnics at various parks around Hong Kong. We’ve even taken advantage of local hotels and had three great staycations–there’s nothing quite like staying in a hotel!
Each day of our Hong Kong summer the bright blue sky is filled with a hot sun and big white puffy clouds are scattered all about. Basically, the weather is ideal, and with beaches surrounding us over here on the Southside of Hong Kong, we are pretty well situated. My problem is despite using strong SPF at all times, my skin has gotten way too damaged dark. It’s definitely time for me to invest in a sun shirt.
While the summer has been all sorts of wonderful and we’ve definitely had a chance to relax and reset, missing our family back home is the hardest–not to mention not making it to our cabin for the second summer in a row. When we do make it back to the Pacific Northwest, the reunion will be so grand!
What has your summer been like?
