High Waisted Black Skinny Jeans? Ya right!

High Waisted Black Skinny Jeans 2
I will not lie to you: I’ve gained a little weight since I had my hip surgery this past fall. It’s not a big deal; I’ll get back to my old self in no time, but it does mean that there is a certain way I will be wearing my high waisted black skinny jeans! Basically, I won’t be wearing anything tucked in or cropped for awhile. Do you have one of these ponchos? In any color it will do, but trust me: the poncho is my ponch’s best friend. Do you see how there is a “V” that starts at the sides and goes down past the crotch? This style is the perfect ponch mask, AND it allows for me to wear my new high waisted black skinny jeans. The poncho does something else for my legs. Do you see how my upper torso looks as wide as the poncho goes? This wideness only accentuates the legs making them look more thin. It’s a style trick. Finally, I want to say a good thing about the way jeans are now coming high waisted–sometimes referred to as “mom jeans.” This is not a bad thing! The high waist offers support and again, keeps the ponch in check. It’s almost like wearing Spanx. I find that I hold my core more with this style of pants providing me a reminder to suck my tummy in and up. Another thing happens with a high waisted jean: the longer the waist line, the longer your leg will become. Finally, going with black is also a no brainer–black is slimming. It’s true! All these style tips coming from a poncho and high waisted black skinny jeans.

Remember these style tips:

  • A poncho provides great coverage to the stomach area.
  • A poncho with its width will make the lower half look skinnier.
  • High waisted skinny jeans keep the tummy in.
  • High waisted skinny jeans elongate the leg.
  • Finally, black is slimming.

Want a cool poncho?

I found a ton, but these are the ones that stood out. Please let me know if there’s a particular color or style you’re after. I’ll find it for you. Also, last year I ran a Poncho series; here’s the one up above styled over a sequin dress, a winter white one styled monochromatically, a khaki one paired with camouflage, and a beach poncho in Boracay.

There are a ton of options, but I chose five of what I think are the best. These five pair go just a little bit higher up–which is a good thing. Believe me!

  1. Skinny jeans and a poncho….got to love that combination!
It has now become a classic.
You are right about the de-ponching power of a poncho and the amazing “hold it all in” power of the high waisted skinny jean. Tucking in that muffin top is very satisfying!
We have all been there, a few pounds above our “fighting weight”.
You will be back to your old self in no time.
If it is any consolation….I can’t say I noticed a ponch or a pouch or any kind of excess baggage.
    Great tips.

  2. I’ve been looking for a poncho, but haven’t found quite the right one yet. Been a fan of anything high waist for a long time. It helps with accentuating my waist. Never ever ever liked low rise anything as I prefer my undies to stay inside the outer garment. Hadn’t contemplated that V pointing down being slimming stuff yet and you are right of course. However I often wear wider on the top things to balance with my more abundant hips.

    Wishing you a great week!
