Today was my last day at work for the 2017-2018 school year. We leave for Seattle on Sunday morning and arrive on Sunday at the same time we leave–gotta love time travel! We’ll have no problem staying up however once we arrive; we’ll be heading to an afternoon Mariners’ game! Love me some Ms baseball at Safeco field. As I’m packing, for the Pacific Northwest, there’s a certain uniform I have in mind, and yes, short shorts are a part of it.
Basically, the way I dress in Seattle and out at my lake cabin is very, very different than the way I dress for work and life in Hong Kong. It has always been that way for over 20 years now; however it took me quite a few years to figure it out. I can remember plenty of times when I’ve tried to dress the same way I do overseas in the location where I’m living, but I always end up either too cold or too out of place. The PNW is casual and not nearly as colorful as some of the places where I’ve lived.
These bright blue shorts and embroidered top will remain in HK until I return in August. In place of a lot of color are plain white tees, my oversized Levi’s, and my Wrangler cut-offs. Oh, the black Northface puffer is being packed as well. I’ll also bring my white cable knit sweater and my grey cashmere v-neck. Sweats will also make the circuit–it’s just the way it is. I’ll need to be cozy out in the woods. I’ve ordered two more of this off-the-shoulder sweatshirt because it’s just that comfortable!
Changing style gears is always interesting. It takes me a bit to acclimate to where I’m at…and then when I travel, I try to do the same. For example, for a weekend in July, we’ll go visit Vincent down in Santa Barbara, California. Most likely I’ll give every attempt to try to fit in there….I’ll research local bloggers, look at the fashion section of their local paper, and check Pinterest for Santa Barbara style. I’m thinking a bit nautical, a bit boho, all mixed in together. One thing is for sure: I’ll be packing my short shorts for that trip too.
Now, I’m only hoping that the Pacific Northwest weather allows for my short shorts!
