Isn’t it the worse when your favorite shoes get all scuffed up? That was the case with my favorite brown booties. They’re not made of real leather, so when I scuffed the front a bit too much, the faux material lifted off. Yet, I love the comfort and style of this boot and was not ready to get rid of them. That’s when I figured a little DIY needed to be done–painting scuffed shoes has got to be the easiest DIY around. And now, I’ve got a groovy new pair of booties!
Painting Scuffed Shoes
1. Gather the Supplies.
Aside from a pair of scuffed shoes, white acrylic paint (or any other desired color), masking tape and a brush are needed. To make sure I didn’t make too big of a mess splattering paint, I had discarded newspapers on hand. Different size brushes could be used or even a sponge.
2. Prep the Shoes.
With the masking tape, I covered up the soul and heel. I didn’t want any of the paint to splatter onto either of these surfaces. Then, I stuffed newspapers into the opening of the shoe to protect the inside as well.
3. Prep the Area.
I laid out the newspaper and squirted some paint onto the paper. I also had water on hand to dilute the paint when needed.
4. Start Splattering!
I doused the brush in the white paint and started whipping the brush at the shoe. When the paint was too thick, I added a little water to the palette on the paper. I just keep splattering in desired areas–in particular those two big scuffed marks. It was rather important to know when to stop–I didn’t want to over do it which could have been possible. Know when to quit!
Painting Scuffed Shoes Makes them NEW!
I’m pretty happy with how this DIY turned out. Do you have a pair of shoes that need some new life breathed into them? Consider painting scuffed shoes–it’s a super easy DIY!

Stay tuned for a post with them styled. So boho–and totally up your alley Debbie! I can totally see my Style Sister wearing something like these. Meanwhile, remember the leather lace you added to a pair of your boots. I’m thinking about doing something like that but with chain. ;D A x
Can’t wait to see them!
Ann, You are TOO COOL…I love it!
Thanks Sam. *blush* A x
So clever and brave! I don’t know if I’d be gutsy enough to try this in case it didn’t come out as I expected. They look fab. Well done x

Anna’s Island Style
I really had nothing to lose Anna as they were looking kind of dorky with the pleather showing through. If they were real leather, the scuffs would have been fine, but hence, faux is faux! Now I’ve got painted faux! ;P A x
Thanks Kim. I love my new-to-me shoes now even more! A x
I think you just started a whole new trend. These shoes remind me of Bas Kosters, a Dutch designer who is crazy. Most of his stuff is far too much out of my comfort zone, but some of it is just sooo desirable.
