DIY: Miu Miu Ribbon Heels

DIY Miu Miu Heels 10

The other day while I was at the doctor’s office which is actually in a very fancy mall. As I was window shopping on my way through, I looked into Miu Miu’s window and was enchanted by the lovely heels I saw. As I kept stargazing, I realized, Wait! I could totally make these. Again, I will repeat my DIY mantra: I only conduct easy DIYs, and this one was exactly just that. Super. Simple. I quite like how I jazzed up this pair of heels, and with a very versatile addition like this, I can swap out different ribbons to accentuate my outfits! Let’s just say it pays to window shop! Right?!

DIY: MIU MIU RIBBON HEELS

1. GATHER THE SUPPLIES.

Four main items are needed for this DIY: are a pair of heels (any color would do), a leather hole puncher, 2 grommets, and some ribbon. Also, I used glue, a pin to clean my leather hole puncher, and a pen to widen my punctured hole. Next time I visit my local craft store, I plan to go wild with the ribbon and buy all sorts of colors.

2. PUNCH A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF EACH SHOE.

DIY Miu Miu Heels 2This was the easiest part. Just make sure to punch the outside of the heel and try to get close to the same spot for each shoe.

3. INCREASE THE HOLE WIDTH.

DIY Miu Miu Heels 3The hole puncher I used could only make a 4.5 mm hole at its largest setting. So I grabbed a writing pen and stuck it through the hole, enlarging it bit by bit.

4. ADD GLUE AND GROMMET AND PRESS.

Add glue to the entire hole are and then add the grommet. Then press with your fingers for about a minute. This glue dries quickly–which is nice, but it means you need to act fast.

5. LET THE GLUE DRY AND THEN CLEAN UP THE SQUIGGLIES.

DIY Miu Miu Heels 4The glue will dry pretty well within 15-20 minutes. Don’t worry about being messy with this glue. It easily cleans up with a light rub of the fingers. The squiggles come right off. Plus, the ribbon will be going through the grommet, so if there is glue in the hole, it will never be seen.

6. INSERT THE RIBBON, THEN FOOT, AND TIE!

DIY Miu Miu Heels 12The shoe is finished! Just add the ribbon, put on the shoe, and tie the ribbon around your ankle. Next time, when I go to get more ribbon, I will make my strands longer so that I can wrap around one more time and tie a proper bow.

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!

There’s no way I would be able go all day in a pair of heels. That type of shoe has unfortunately not made an appearance in my work day–yet! What I actually wore with this outfit was a pair of black converse. But! If I had it my way, I would have worn my DIY Miu Miu ribbon heels all day long.

  1. You come up with the best DIY projects! This is such a great idea! I have a weak ankle (had surgery 30 years ago and re-injured many times of the years) so I can’t wear heels at all.

Black and white is such a great combo! I love your outfit with both shoes! 🙂

    Have a fabulous weekend, Ann!

    1. Slowly but surely I’m getting used to no heels. It’s hard and disheartening. But! I am having fun figuring out how to wear my tennies with just about everything!

And Andrea, I am so glad you like my DIYs!! Makes me feel good! GRIN! Love, Ann

  2. Gorgeous and Fun black and white look! Loving this DIY project. I have a pair of black pumps practically just like these I pretty much never wear anymore, and this could be just the thing to get them back into rotation. I do wear heels pretty much every single day at the office, but I do love wearing my many Chuck’s on the weekend, especially with dresses and skirts. 🙂

    1. Yes, Jennie! Do it!! And, can I just say I am a little jelly that you are able to wear heels every day! Oh, I miss them so. What size are your feet? Maybe I should pass them on to you…

      Love, Ann

  3. Brilliant!
You are such a great DIYer…this is a definite one that I am going to steal.
Off to find a pair of shoes to grommet.

    1. Yay! I’m glad you will try it Sam. Let me know how it works out, k? Read my comment to Conny up above because I think there’s more to be done with punching a simple hole in the side of a shoe!

      Love, Annie

    1. Thank you Ada! You’re compliments make me feel so good! So again, thank you!!

Happy May Day to you too! I forgot about that holiday as I don’t live in the States. Here we did have a three day weekend because Monday was Labor Day in Hong Kong. That was glorious!

      Love, Ann

  4. Yes, go for it Conny! It was easy. And if you don’t have a leather hole punch, you could just bring the shoes to your cobbler. I also think this DIY could be done with flats or pumps of any color. Oh, and one more thing, if a hole was made on both sides, and you inserted some lace, you’ve got an easy pair of lace-ups. Hey! Maybe I need to try that one….

I’m glad you liked this post Conny! Love, Ann

  5. Hahha! I am sorry to make your heart cry Linda. But I’m glad you like the heels in the end. I think this DIY updated these pumps just a bit. I can’t wait to get some more and different ribbons to add. Thanks for stopping by Linda! Love, Ann

  6. Thank you! Chucks are the best!! I only have black right now, but I’m thinking I need a white pair….maybe in the high-top version. What color are yours?

Thanks for stopping by! Love, Ann
