Date Night: Isola and Stone Nullah Tavern

SetFeatureViewWith a return to Hong Kong comes the pleasant routine of school and work for our family, so Kevin and I have been able to resume our Date Nights. Our Date Night for August actually occurred on the first day of school! (You can see the truth to my LBD Ritual.) We wanted to have our pre dinner drink somewhere on the water, so we first tried Pier 7 CafĂ© and Bar (down at Pier 7). Unfortunately this joint doesn’t really have a view. Yes, it’s on the roof, but it’s squished in with odd walled barriers obstructing any vantage points. We then went down to the main floor and tried the Watermark. This looked lovely inside, but it’s a contained restaurant with lovely windows, but fished bowled. On this lovely evening we wanted to be outside, so needless to say, we kept looking.

Isola From the Pier we looked out at IFC Mall and could see various groupings of people–there had to be a bar up there on the mall’s terraces somewhere! Once we arrived, (yes, there was lots of walking, and the gold sandals replaced the heels!) we headed to Red. It was happening! Red is PURE’s (a fitness gym in the mall) bar. This bustling joint is definitely the place to go to after work; there were the groupings we could see from afar with buckets of beer mixed in. It looked fun for a big group, but Kevin and I were on Date Night–we were looking for a more intimate spot. We found it at Isola! This little bar is tucked away but still on the terraces. We sat down on comfy sofas and got cozy. I ordered a fancy cocktail and Kevin a beer. The breeze was pleasant and the view spectacular. After a ton of walking to find the best spot for a cocktail, our Date Night had finally begun!

StoneNulla For dinner, we decided to go to Stone Nullah Tavern. JJ, the Wanderlister, kept recommending this spot to me: I go to him for recommendations as he is the expert on everything Hong Kong! It was such an interesting meal. For one, Stone Nullah is said to have American comfort food. From my standpoint, some of the things offered on the menu seemed foreign to the average American. Fois gras for example would appear to be very French; I’m not sure how many Americans eat that as a comfort food. The mac’n cheese on the menu–now yes, that is very typically American. We had some great plates though: the crispy quinoa with curried cauliflower would bring me back to Stone Nullah. It was AMAZING! The squid salad was also very good. We were treated to a little bowl of maple syrup tossed homemade potato chips that were then sprinkled with bacon bits. Yes, those were also very good! Kevin enjoyed some delicious beer on tap and I some fine vino. The ambience was lovely: it was super cozy and den like. The wait staff were also remarkable; everyone was so kind and cheery. I’d definitely recommend giving Stone Nullah Tavern a go!
