Can we move to Santa Barbara?

I am so lucky that traveling is such a part of my life! Somehow Kevin and I made this incredible lifestyle that allows for travel during the school year and then some more during out summers. (I can say with confidence that being an international educator is one of the best jobs in the world–at least it has been for us.) A couple of weeks ago we went to Santa Barbara with Kevin’s folks to visit Vincent who’s been down there for six weeks playing baseball. (It was Kevin and my second time to Santa Barbara–we stayed a night there last summer on our California road trip to celebrate 20 years of marriage!) Every now and then when we travel to a new place, I end up wanting to move there. This is so the case with Santa Barbara! I really, really like it there, and despite seeing myself in various places around the world, I hope that one day I’ll live in California again. I was actually born there in 1972 (but only lived there for my first four years of life).

Here are some of the things that attract me to Santa Barbara: beaches, mountains, a small population (yet one that grows with tourists), tacos, red wine, weather, shopping, and finally an adorable main street. Also, my favorite thing from my two visits is the biking–it’s super easy to get around the town on a cruiser bike. I love this! I really appreciate being able to hop on a bike to get where I need to go. Now, there is one very serious limiter to being able to actually move to Santa Barbara…. who knows if we could even afford a house there! I joked with Vincent that I wanted him to go to school there, and I would get a job at a local library or books store down there. I joke, but there is a bit of me that’s actually serious! (Poor kid!! He’s got a mom that wants to move to college with him–but I doubt I’m not the only mom who has thought this.)

Let’s take a moment to talk about my (I will go ahead and say it!) cute cop-ord here (top and shorts). It seems that each summer I am able to walk into Target and find something that is going to be my go-to outfit. Last summer it was my polka dot romper; this year it’s this Grecian looking short and top set. It had been a while since people stopped me to ask where I got what I was wearing; this keeps happening each time I wear this outfit. I had one gal even stop me on my bike in Santa Barbara–she told me she was planning to go to target that very afternoon. Oh! Speaking of Target… that is one other drawback to Santa Barbara. They don’t have a TargĂ© yet, but I heard one is coming. Hopefully by the time I move there, Target has also moved to town!

There is one other item to note from this outfit: my iridescent, glowing pendant. On Sundays, the boardwalk in Santa Barbara is lined with its artisans. I picked up this handmade, glass pendant from a gorgeous gal named Sylvie. She didn’t have a website, but if you go to Santa Barbara, make sure to hit that market. She’s stall number 70–you can’t miss her. I love how this pendant picks up the color I’m wearing–especially blue.

It’s always fun to take a pic of my photographer. They are running far and few between these days. Gigi isn’t as into it as she used to be, and Kevin ends up using the continuous button so I end up with 300+ pictures to sort through. Luckily for this outfit take, Alex, my dear father-in-law, was eager to take my pics and get them just right. He really is the sweetest man.

If you could move anywhere, where would it be?!
