I’ve had Gucci style on my mind for a while now. I love staring at the Gucci store windows here in Hong Kong. Their Instagram feed is incredible. Every Gucci editorial has me in awe. At one of the Gucci stores here in Hong Kong, there’s a big screen that I just sit and watch a few cycles through because all the details are so amazing. It’s like a magic land, a magic land of style.
I’ve been wanting to attempt a Gucci style post for a while now, but I’ve been unclear of how to put it together. Then, I figured something out for me… if I make one thing match another and so on all throughout my outfit, maybe in the end I will have attempted and hopefully succeeded in some Gucci style.
My look started with rose sequin skirt. I knew I had to wear that. I also know I needed to wear one of my leopard shirts, so I went with the silkiest, shiniest one I own. For more texture I added my velvet pink block heeled sandals. I noticed socks are a staple in any Gucci look, so I grabbed my sparkliest striped net ones. The jean jacket ties the skirt and shirt together with both the black and rose colored flowers. In the end I grabbed another textured snake scarf and tied it around my head. Finally, I doused myself in some gold and more baubles. The last touch was a boho beaded bag tying in more of the blush colors. Basically everything is thrown together, some of it matching and others not; I think that just might be the key to Gucci style. Just throw it all together!
I purposely decided to shoot my Gucci style look in front of this Uma Nota mural by Elsa Jean de Dieu. I’ve always loved this wall: she’s a powerful yet exotic woman all in one. I think those two adjectives describe Gucci pretty well as well. Gucci is eclectic just as this laughing, maybe screaming woman is. Uma Nota is delicious Brazilian/Japanese hot spot in Hong Kong with exotic drinks and an interesting menu. The best spot to sit at this haunt is on one of the benches outside–it’s perfect for watching the people pass by.
I wasn’t laughing later on this day. After taking this shoot, I frantically hustled to the airport express to catch a train to pick up Gigi from the airport. In the midst of changing back in to my normal streetwear on the train, my wallet got stolen unbeknownst to me. Two hours later, and the theft had spent a substantial exorbitant amount on the Amex and Visa. What a nightmare! Luckily, both banks, with the support of the five hour police report I obtained, marked all the purchases as fraud, and we were protected. It’s unfathomable how much and how quickly those two cards were used up. Yes, Hong Kong is a safe place to live, yet, I’ve learned the hard way to watch my personal belongings a little closer.
What do you think of Gucci style?
Has all the Gucci style influenced your way of dressing? I put together this gallery from a few of their editorial pictures over that last few seasons.
