Zara DIY Pants: the Double Red Stripe

zara-diy-pants-11Called the “Zara Item Everyone Wore at Fashion Week” by Who What Wear, it’s been love at first, second, third sight with these double red striped trousers. I repeatedly looked at them, almost buying them, but then figured this too easy a pair to recreate adding another Zara DIY pants to my to-do list. This trendy piece is half jogger track pant and the other marching band uniform. Any way you spin it, I kept falling in love with these pants and had to have them. According to my Instagram feed, I haven’t been the only one! If it’s not Zara’s version, there have been plenty others; they can either be dressed up or down. Of course, I went down as I pair most things with any one of my tennis shoes these days. Despite causual shoes, I felt terrbily chic in this outfit and especially loved all the money I saved by making the look on my own!

Zara DIY Pants: the Double Red Stripe

Again, I searched through all my black pants and found a simple straight legged pair. I went to my gal Suzanne at TinTin Beads on Etsy, and she found the perfect 1 inch wide, red, gross grain ribbon for me. In fact, she made a separate entry on Etsy just for me. I went to my tailor, and she easily sewed the double trimming onto the side seam of each pant leg. If this DIY isn’t easy, I don’t know what is! I saved at least fifty dollars on this as I only spent about $15 to make these trendy, must-have, track pant. These Zara DIY pants could easily be done in any color combo; I just happened to copy the high street fashion, but for inspiration, look at all these interpretations.

What do you think of the double striped trouser? Too casual or something you might embrace?

I’ve got one more pair of Zara DIY pants ready for tomorrow, so do make sure to come back!

Norbyah, thanks for these shots. You line the pic of so nicely every single time!

PS The kerchief is often seen wrapped around the neck, but it can also be wrapped around the wrist providing a nice bracelet type accessory.

    1. Thanks Linda. Since I’m always in sneakers, I guess I kind of like track pant look! Hahha!

My husband makes fun of me every time I wear them–like right now! He just visited my office and asked if I was a part of the marching band. As he left, he marched off! Hahha!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Love it! In fact I did something very similar with decorative ribbon and with pearls ( both I sewed on by hand). I also did stenciling down each leg of a pair of khaki color jeans that I sent to Jodi Filogamo. Great concept, fun and easy to do and much cheaper as well.

Feeling pretty defeated today but trying not to lose heart. As a former civics teacher this election result is particularly tough to swallow.

    1. Yes, defeated is the exact word. Now, time to move on and I guess just hope for the best right?

I know I kinda cheated by having Yee sew them on for me. She’s just so helpful, and she does such a better job than I would be able to do. I asked with a thumbs down, thumb in the middle, and thumbs up if she like working with me. I gotta laugh and a yes. Language is a barrier at times but not creativity!

Thanks for your support Judy! Love it!!

      1. How wonderful that you have Yee and that she has you too!
I’m thinkin that her tailoring services and skills are more affordable than they might be here in the states (?)

        1. Actually, I wonder. Each time I work with her, her usual fee is $100. I try bargaining too–of course! Have to!! Hahaha. Anyway, $100HKD is $12.89 USD. Does that sound less or more than what a tailor would cost in the States?

PS Monday is her day off, but I have some very long pants to take her to hem which is usually less…usually!

  2. Oooh, I need to stop my sneaker collection! It’s gotten kind of out of control. I probably have over 20 pair by now. That is way too much!! But, since I can’t wear heels, I’m compensating!! At least that’s what I tell myself–hahhaa!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

  3. LOVE. If it were humanly possible, I love these even more than the ones with them gold buttons, Annie. Such a fresh take on tuxedo pants especially because you paired them with kicks. LOVE.
